Downsizing in London?
Once the children have left home and the stairs are becoming a burden, it is common to move on from the family home and downsize to a smaller property. Typically, our clients are looking for easier access, less maintenance, good security and parking.
We recently found a flat in a lateral red brick mansion block in Maida Vale for our client, with only one step to access the property, 24 hr security and direct access to a communal garden. Our client was delighted to move to a readymade community she didn’t know existed, only 10 minutes from her previous home. We also handled the sale of her previous residence, which she had enjoyed for 32 years!
The frequency of these “downsizing requirements” has increased over the past few years and they are often challenging but we know where and how to look.
In another example, at 82 our client was finding his four-storey house too large. Not wanting to move far from his children and grandchildren he had spent several months trying to find a suitable property. The requirements were exacting but as experienced London buying agents, we instantly knew a block that could work for him. As nothing was for sale in the block, we approached a number of contacts and found a landlord who was thinking of selling. This enabled an off-market purchase. Now in situ our clients couldn’t be happier with their funky industrial warehouse flat in Chiswick – a new beginning!
It is often a new start and an exciting time to find a different way of living.
