The Cadogan Estate controls large portions of the area and has played a major role in preserving its architectural consistency. Around King’s Road and Old Chelsea, elegant townhouses, artist studios, and period conversions predominate. Closer to the river, some of London’s most sought-after waterfront houses and apartments can be found along Cheyne Walk and the surrounding streets. Local Alumni

Thomas Carlyle’s house on Cheyne Row is now preserved as a museum. Dante Gabriel Rossetti and J.M.W. Turner both lived along Cheyne Walk. In the 20th century, Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s shop SEX at 430 King’s Road became the epicentre of British punk fashion.
