Overview
Laid out as a residential district from 1791 by Charles Pratt, the first Earl Camden, the area grew rapidly with the arrival of the Regent’s Canal in 1820 and the railway in 1837. Camden Town was transformed by the opening of its now legendary markets in 1973, and remains one of north London’s most distinctive neighbourhoods.
